The Seattle Friendship Force Club gave us a wonderful welcome in a lovely home and shared many facets of their locale with us. This included the Ballard locks with a fish ladder for salmon, which the fish found challenging to access and many preferred the locks! We saw seals waiting to catch the salmon. We watched a wide array of vessels pass through the locks ranging from kayaks to large yachts. We visited the Nordic Museum, the vast Boeing Museum of flight, which included a walk through a Concord luxury plane, and Kubota Japanese gardens. We went to the top of the Space needle for spectacular views of the city and the area and marveled at the incredible glass craftsmanship in the Chihuly Garden and Museum. We also had a day trip into the mountains to the German Alps themed town of Leavenworth. We visited to Pikes Peak market and watched fish mongers play catch with wrapped fish. We stopped at the original Starbucks and Beechers’ cheese factory. We took a cruise on the harbor and through the Ballard locks. Several Ambassadors also did a 5-day extension to the San Juan Islands, with wonderful hiking in Lime Kiln Park, visits to an alpaca farm, a black sheep farm, Pelindaba Lavender Farm, tidal pools, local artisans, and story poles. Some people saw orcas from the ferry on the return to the mainland.
